To Harvest we go!

When we booked this weekend away (months in advance of course), we knew one thing: we were going to have the best time. And no doubt, we did. Arguably, we got much more than we hoped for. Spectacular weather, wonderful company, beautiful locations, delicious food, glorious wine. And you know what they say about Welly on a good day.

The series of events:

  • Half-day at work, a very relaxed afternoon flight from Auckland to Wellington;

  • Pit-stop in Wellington to pick up the weekend’s chariot and some snacks for the road;

  • Experiencing the Friday night Wellington-to-Wops commuter traffic (still not as bad as Auckland but worse than what we could all vaguely remember from when we lived there);

  • Stretch of legs and cheeky photo-op at the Rimutaka Summit Lookout;

  • Sunset exploration of the grounds of our lodgings for the weekend;

  • Family style meal as prepared by our epic mother-of-the-weekend, Barbs;

  • Clareville Bakery run for breakfast- to line the stomach before a big day of vino;

  • Mimosas to set the tone;

  • Memorable bus-stop small-talk on the side of the country roads;

  • Realising there was no phone service at Harvest, so we were unable to present our tickets for scanning, resulting in a delayed entry;

  • Big day of wining and dining and dancing at Harvest under the sun;

  • After-party of cheeseboards, Barb’s incredible beef short ribs, Connor’s strong pink gins and basically a never-ending supply of food and booze;

  • Early morning turn around the grounds, book-reading on the couch and cups of tea;

  • Family-style big breakfast to dust off the day-before;

  • Pleasant journey back to Wellington including time to explore, hit up a classic rooftop bar and dine at Casa Kumar;

  • Equally enjoyable evening flight back to Auckland.
