11 Answers to 11 Questions

A few weeks ago, I was nominated for the Liebster Award by the lovely Miss White’s Makeup Desk, whom I had met through the weekly #nzbloggers chat on Twitter. That fateful Sunday night we bonded, along with Stellaxox, over Taylor Swift’s super-relatable, super-catchy songs and singing them like noone was listening (aka. stuck in traffic in our cars and that moment when you realise the car next to you is watching but you just don’t care).

I’m a newbie blogger, so Miss White has given me the perfect chance to tell the world a little bit more about myself. The rules to follow are:

“First, you mention the person who nominated you on your blog and link them in. Answer the 11 questions that you were asked when nominated. Nominate 5 – 11 other bloggers (with less than 200 followers) and link them below. Create 11 questions for them to answer and let them know that you have nominated them!”

Not that I’m using this as an excuse, but since I’m a newbie still growing my network, I will only nominate one blogger: Cinders and the City, to get her blog kick started! I’ve got four more nominations to make in the future! Being a fresh graduate and budding young-professional, my 11 questions have been mixed with a few career-related ones. They are as follows:

  1. The age-old question to start: what did you want to be when you were a young child?
  2. Who was/is your favourite teacher, lecturer, coach (you get the idea), and why?
  3. The one golden nugget of advice or wisdom to your high school self?
  4. Would you put your photo on your CV, why or why not?
  5. What is your signature font? Yes, that’s a serious question (mine is Avenir).
  6. You’re 25: travel or career?
  7. If you didn’t have to work for a living, what would you be doing instead?
  8. If you could make anyone alive in the world today instantly be best friends with you, who would it be and why?
  9. You’ve found the genie and are granted 3 wishes. What would they be?
  10. If you could be any movie/TV character and live their life who would it be & why?
  11. What are you doing right now?

Answering some of these questions were much trickier than I thought and I pondered them on the couch, on the plane, sunbathing and also whilst pretending to be a student at the University of Auckland! Anyway, read on for my answers.

If you won 30 million dollars, what is your plan? (Everyone has a winning money plan right?) Winning money is always an indulgent wish of mine. If that luck was lucky enough to come my way, the first thing I would do is pay off my parent’s mortgage. Secondly, I would buy the steel, jersey-knit knife-pleat skirt that has been taunting me at Forever New. I would be boarding the next flight to London to visit my sister, and while I’m there, travel Europe and everywhere else. In the near future, I would decide on charities and causes that I would not only donate funds to, but create fundraising events, execute marketing initiatives and volunteer for. Top of my list right now: UNICEF for Vanuatu, and KidsCan.

If you had to throw away 5 makeup products right now that you own – what would they be and why? I’m a minimal-makeup kinda girl- I have one foundation, one blush, one bronzer, two eyeshadow palettes… You get the idea! I recently bought a liquid eyeliner and after many failed attempts to apply it (imagine strokes all over my eyelids, under-eyes and even my nose #trainwreck), it is the one item I would throw out due to the sheer frustation it caused me (yes, I did try more than once)! Maybe someone wants to give me a lesson?

If you could be any movie/TV character and live their life who would it be & why? Rory Gilmore. Blair Waldorf. Rachel Berry. Carrie Bradshaw (the younger version from The Carrie Diaries). Why? Because they are all young women who showed me success, failure, love, perseverance, friendship and almost once every episode I would think “I want to be them”. Whether it was for something shallow (but gorgeous) like Blair’s headbands, Carrie’s skirts, Rory’s boyfriends (strictly Jess and Logan), or something a little deeper, like Rachel’s passion and clear life dream.

What is your favourite name for a girl and a boy? Names are hard to pick, as without a face or personality, to me, they are just words. In saying that, there are names which I throughly enjoy and yes, may potentially call my potential future children. For the boys: Lucas, Charlie, Dominic, Jude. For the girls: Alexa, Harper, Blair.

If you had to live each night as an animal without being tired due to lack of sleep, which animal would you be? This is a hard one as I quite like being a human! Either a rainforest bird, or a big cat in the safari.

What was the last lie you told? I said I was ok with getting burgers even though I wanted pancakes. My burger was no where near as good as the could-have-been-pancakes I would have consumed! However, I was too hangry (hungry-angry) and we had just spent the past 20 minutes aimlessly wandering that I just couldn’t tell the truth.

If you could be any age for a week, what age would you be and why? Thirty. Because the twenties is such a turbulent, crazy, accelerated, acheivement-filled decade that I want to know I survived and conquered it.

What is the weirdest/most unexplainable thing that has ever happened to you? I often have very real dreams and a few times now they have come true. Just imagine my deja vu!

What is your biggest fear? It might not be my biggest fear, but what induces fear the most immediately are big moths and the flickering shadows they make when they fly around a light source in a frenzy. I distinctly remember the childhood moment when I was pushing a moth around on the windowsill, and my mother and sister telling me that since I touched the ‘moth dust’ I would go blind. Other very real fears are my parents dying, pregnancy-gone-wrong and crashing my Dad’s car (I did it two years ago and I’m now a nervous driver).

What was your happiest moment? I have had so many happy moments in my life, that I could go on and on and on. Since I can’t decide on one, my most recent ‘happiest moment’ was landing back home in Wellington after the most amazing three-month Beijing experience (yet another ‘happiest moment’), feeling solid ground beneath me and having my boyfriend surprise me at the airport.

If you could make anyone alive in the world today instantly best friends with you, who would it be and why? Easy. Taylor Swift. So we could have epic sleepovers with singalongs, stair-slides, Mexican food, cupcakes, cronuts, clothes swaps and just general fun with all our best friends. Because who hasn’t seen her pics on Instagram and commented “#wishwewerethere @insertyourbestfriendsnamehere”… #guiltyischarged.

So there you have it! Would you have answered any of the above like me? Drop me a comment as like I said, I’m trying to grow my bloggers network so would love to hear from you!

  1. I didn’t even know that there was a nzbloggers chat on twitter! Thanks for the heads up 🙂 I think your blog is awesome! I pretty much answered the qs (in my head) and figured out – Taylor Swift would be a great bestie. Also, about the liquid eyeliner – I struggled the first time I tried applying it. Gel eyeliner is pretty good though, it’s easier to apply and the one I got comes with an angled brush. I got it from the Warehouse for only $5!

    1. Hi Katey! Thanks for stopping by 🙂 you should defs join the bloggers chat on the Sunday night, 8pm- it’s great fun but your fingers are tired after haha! I’m soooo unco it’s not funny but thanks for the tip re eyeliner, I should try it out as I think I’m missing out on bigger eyes 😛 I really enjoy your blog and what you write about- those green palazzo pants are so chic!
